Signs of True Conversion
Certain Bible Signs of True Christian Conversion
Galatians 2:20 ...'I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.'
There are certain signs of a true conversion that everyone who has accepted Christ Jesus into their lives should display. Why? Because the power of Christ working in a person's life will change them from their old ways into a new way of living for Him and not for themselves. There isn't a person on earth who truly has Christ living in them and has not been changed by it. The power of His Spirit dwelling in you WILL change you. But if you have accepted Jesus into your life, and you feel no change in the way you live, then I would maybe suggest that you recommit yourself to the Lord Jesus today. A person who has truly been converted will display the fruits of the Spirit in their lives.
But please know that these things will not happen instantly. Rather, as we walk with Jesus each day and begin to grow with Him, then we will see these signs happening more and more:
Galatians 5:22-25 ...'But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.'
Conversion Sign One - A sense of Peace in your Soul
John 14:27 ...'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.'
Anyone who has had true conversion will feel a deep sense of peace within themselves, because they have repented of their sins and through Christ stand justified before God ... Romans 5:1 ...'Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.' ... Through Christ we will be free from the burden of sin. No longer will we feel under a heavy burden because Christ will lift it from us and give us peace in Him. And as we walk with Him, we will want to obey Him and keep His commandments, which will give us peace, as a wise man once said:
Proverbs 3:1-3 ...'My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.'
No longer will we be troubled, because we have the many wonderful promises that God gives us through His Word in the Bible ... John 14:1-3 ...'Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.'
Conversion Sign Two - Love Towards Others
When we turn to Christ Jesus, a sign of true conversion will be the love that we begin to have towards others. Love will become the ruling power in our lives, so much so that we will begin to even love those that hate us ... Matthew 5:44 ...'But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.'
And anyone who does not love their brethren, cannot have Christ dwelling in them ... 1 John 3:14-15 ...'We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.'
Ephesians 5:2 ...'And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us.'
Conversion Sign Three - A Desire to Turn away from the World
2 Corinthians 6:17 ...'Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.'
This is another sign of true conversion. When we walk with Christ, we will have a deep desire to start turning away from the things of this world, and to "put off the old man" with it's fleshly lusts and desires. No longer will we want to take part in worldly activities that have no benefit for the true Christian ... 1 John 2:15-16 ...'Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.' ... A true converted Christian will no longer love his/her life on this earth and the things of this world, because we will realize that the things of this world are not of God. How can we love the things that are not of God?
We will want to start separating ourselves from this world and be willing to give it all up for Christ and the Heavenly Kingdom that awaits us ... John 12:25 ...'He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.' ... Our focus should be on Heaven and eternal life with Christ and our Heavenly Father.
Philippians 3:14 ...'I press on toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.'
Conversion Sign Four - A Desire and Will to Pray Fervently
Those in Christ Jesus will have a real desire to pray and talk with God as often as possible. We will want to lift up our voices in praise and thanksgiving every day, and to pray for those in need and for those who are lost. The apostles showed us how big a part prayer has in the Christian life:
Acts 12:5 ...'Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.'
2 Timothy 1:3 ...'I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day.'
The prophet Daniel showed us the right and excellent way of living for God. Even though there was a law against praying to the God of Heaven, Daniel continued to pray, because no law of the land could stop Him from obeying and serving his God, even if it meant death ... Daniel 6:10 ...'Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.'
1 Thessalonians 5:17 ...'Pray without ceasing.'
Conversion Sign Five - A Desire to Read and Study the Bible
The Word of God in the Bible is the very foundation of our faith. What would we base our faith on if we did not have the Bible? Therefore, anyone who has come to Christ and been converted, will want to read and study His Word each and every day, to find the truth.
2 Timothy 2:15 ...'Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.'
The bereans were known as a noble people, because they studied the Word of God each day to find the truth. They didn't just take other people's word as truth and go along with that, no, they searched the scriptures themselves to PROVE what was said was right ... Acts 17:11 ...'These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.' ... So another sign of true conversion would be the desire to study the Word of God for yourself and not rely on what your pastor says.
Jeremiah 15:16 ...'Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.'
Conversion Sign Six - A Desire to do the Will of God and Obey Him
Psalm 40:8 ...'I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.'
When we truly love God and have a true appreciation for what Christ Jesus did for us, then we will have a desire to do God's will in our lives and to obey Him and keep His commandments. Not to be saved, but because we are saved. We obey Him out of true love for Him. Just as David above said that he delighted to do God's will and to keep His Commandments, so should we do the same. This really is a sign of true conversion, to obey God out of love for what He has done for us.
Mark 3:35 ...'For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.' ... Whoever does the will of God is a member in Christ's family.
Romans 12:2 ...'And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.' ... It is the will of God that we no longer do the things of this world, but be renewed in His Spirit.
Proverbs 3:1 ...'My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments.'
Ecclesiastes 12:13 ...'Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.'
1 John 5:2-3 ...'By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.'
Revelation 14:12 ...'Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.'
1 John 2:17 ...'And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.'
Conversion Sign Seven - A Need to be a Witness and Share the Gospel
Acts 1:8 ...'But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses> unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.'
Another conversion sign is the desire to share the good news with others, and to live Godly lives so that those outside the faith may see us and give glory to God for it ... 1 Peter 2:12 ...'Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.'
1 Timothy 6:12 ...'Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.'
Through our Godly lives and good works, and the joy and peace we have in Christ, we will be a good witness to those who are outside the faith, so that they may look upon us and see something missing in their lives. We should have a desire also to share the truth with the world, and to reach out to those who are lost ... Matthew 24:14 ...'And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.' ... God is waiting for us to share His truth with the world.
Conversion Sign Eight - To Feel Delight in Living for the LORD
Psalm 42:1-2 ...'As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.'
A truly converted Christian will find so much delight in living for Christ Jesus, and will have a longing desire to be in His presence. Our hearts will be filled with love that goes far beyond anything this world can offer. Only in Christ Jesus can we find this joy, this love, this peace, this delight in living every moment with Him and for Him.
Psalm 37:4 ...'Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.'
Psalm 69:30 ...'I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.'
Isaiah 58:2 ...'Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways.' ... Do you seek God daily? Do you delight to know His ways and His will for your life? Delight yourself in the Lord your God.
These are the certain Bible signs of true conversion as a Christian into a life with Christ Jesus. Give yourself to Him today and you will find that life will take on a whole new meaning.
